The maximum number of tickets to be sold is 16,000. Odds of winning depend on that amount. If less is sold by 5:00PM, July 3rd, the odds will increase. If all 16,000 tickets are sold, the odds of winning $ 300.00 or more are better than 1 in 100. All prizes will be awarded regardless of the amount of tickets sold. Proceeds from the charity raffle will benefit the ongoing project of delivering textbooks to under developed countries, libraries and schools (without discrimination).
This is a very exciting fund raiser for a great cause. We plan on it bringing Charity Textbooks not only donations, but also notoriety. It is a win, win situation for all those involved," says Bob Ballington, President of Charity Textbooks. We are about to send books to Iraq to help rebuild the schools, as well as sending novels to the military in Iraq. "
The July 3rd, 2004 drawing is to be performed by an independent accounting firm, at 5:00PM. Winners do not have to be present. The IRS has taken the position that amounts paid for chances in raffles, lotteries or similar drawings for valuable prizes are not gifts, and consequently do not qualify as deductible charitable contributions. Charity Textbook will pay closing fees on the house, and is not providing a guarantee or warranty, expressed or implied in connection with the house. The two-storey, nineteenth century ante-bellum style house, built during the American Civil War by Dr. PA Wilhite, the doctor who discovered Ether. The house is on the national historic registry and is 6000 square feet, appraised, by a certified real estate appraiser, at $ 750,000.00*. This price does not include the $ 25,000.00 worth of appraised antiques that come with the house.
