New Canoe University Adds Wholesale Buying Course to Its eBay Selling Curriculum

(PRWEB) December 3, 2003

A major issue facing many eBay sellers has been the difficulty of acquiring products to sell on eBay at a price at which they can be profitably sold on the marketplace. Now there is an online course that focuses exclusively on that issue and provides real-world advice and practical training in the art of successfully acquiring goods at wholesale prices. The course is taught by Harry "Skip" McGrath, an eBay power seller, wholesale buyer, and author. His book, "The Wholesale Buying System: How, What and Where to Buy Wholesale Products to Sell on eBay", serves as the basis for the five lectures and textbook for the course. The lectures, which are each approximately 45 minutes in duration, are entitled:

Lecture 1: Setting Up Your Business to Qualify to Buy Wholesale

Lecture 2: Types of Wholesale Distributors & Buying at Auctions

Lecture 3: Importing Wholesale Products & Buying Closeouts

Lecture 4: Wholesale Sources for Art, Antiques & Collectibles

Lecture 5: Buying at Trade Shows, Merchandise Marts & Gift Marts

The lectures include reviews of and hundreds of links to tools, services, and product sources to firmly supply aspiring power sellers with the answers and resources needed to acquire products to be profitably sold on eBay.

Beyond the innovative, Flash-based, "talking slides" of the lectures, students actively participate in discussions and collaborate with their fellow learners and the instructor. "This online education approach gives students a very practical, hands-on experience. New Canoe University narrows down topics into bite-size modules and practical procedures that can be applied immediately to earning an income," relates Americ Azevedo, Interdisciplinary Studies Lecturer, University of California at Berkeley, who helped New Canoe University develop its online learning environment and education methodology.

"While I lecture on my wholesale buying system in a number of different venues, I am excited to be providing a comprehensive learning experience to my students and to become a member of the faculty at New Canoe University," relates Skip McGrath.

"Skip is a bona fide expert and we're very pleased to be adding his course and his expertise to our eBay selling curriculum at New Canoe University," says Bob Heyman, Provost at New Canoe University. "Students who take our 'How to Become an eBay Auction Power Seller' course have been asking for material like that which Skip teaches. With the addition of this course, New Canoe University has put another key piece in place to deliver a fulfilling, people-based, online learning experience that will ultimately help assure success for our students."

"There is a lot of nonsense circulating on the web purporting to be the nirvana of wholesale sources for eBay sellers. In many cases these CD's, e-books and so-called wholesale clubs offer sources with very little discount to retail. It is very difficult for an eBay seller to make money using these sources," says Skip McGrath. "We teach our students how to source goods directly at a cost point where they can make a good margin reselling them on eBay."

The cost of the course is $ 167.00 and includes access to the lectures and the online study groups for an entire year, lifetime access to the Wholesale Resources Plus™ database, and the book, "The Wholesale Buying System: How, What and Where to Buy Wholesale Products to Sell on eBay or Your Web Site."

Skip McGrath is President of Auction Seller's Resource (http://www.auction-sellers-resource.com) and is based in Anacortes, Washington. Skip is an eBay power seller and has authored 6 books relating to selling successfully on eBay. He has been selling online since 1996 and on eBay since 1998.

New Canoe University (http://www.newcanoeu.com), founded in January 2003, is based in Sausalito, California. NCU's mission is to be the leading online provider of training in practical skills that can be immediately applied by students to start small, or home-based businesses. The Company offers low-bandwidth online courses at low-cost in short segments. NCU currently offers the course, "How to Become an Ebay Auction Power Seller."

University of Wisconsin Pioneering the Accessibility Frontier with Web Captioning

Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) October 17, 2010

As the latest development in a national trend toward Web accessibility, the University of Wisconsin-Madison has signed a contract with 3Play Media for media captioning and transcription services in conjunction with delivery of video to the Web and mobile environments. The entire University of Wisconsin System is able to purchase off of this contract. The initiative makes the UW System the second statewide university system in the country, after the University of California, to endorse the use of transcripts and captions for web media.

Historically, UW-Madison has been at the forefront of web accessibility. It was the first university to adopt a web accessibility policy, based on Section 508 standards that make information accessible to individuals with disabilities. In 2001, the Trace Research and Development Center funded the development of MAGpie, the widely used captioning tool. UW's latest initiative comes on the heels of the Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act awaiting the Presidents signature which mandates closed captions for certain types of web video.

"Captioning benefits are often associated with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, but research dating back to the 80s concluded that captions also improve reading and listening comprehension, word recognition, and decoding skills," said Alice Anderson, the University of Wisconsin's Technology Accessibility Program Coordinator.

In addition to closed captions, 3Play Media will be providing its interactive transcript tools that allow users to quickly search and navigate a transcript, as well as translate it into 50+ languages. Users can even clip and share sections of a video simply by highlighting the text.

"The search capabilities of captioning make it invaluable," said Anderson. "What faculty, staff or student wants to scroll through hours of lectures to find the answer to their question?"

Josh Miller, 3Play Medias Co-Founder said Were thrilled to be working with such a progressive institution to advance accessibility. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate how transcription and captioning not only make web video accessible, but also provide a richer experience for all users.
